通过封面和宝贝猜测，故事是发生在哪里呢？树、灌木丛…哦，发生在丛林里，那么主角是谁呢？找、找… tiger, little deer, snake，再仔细看看它们各自的眼睛，以及tiger和snake的舌头，哇，有没有一种紧张感，有没有替little deer捏了一把汗呢。这时，我们心里是不是有个悬念，它们之间到底发生了什么，可爱的小鹿有没有遭殃呢？带着悬念，进入故事..

在扉页上，除了文字作者和插图人，加了reading consultant：Alison Kelly,关于她前面已做过简单介绍。正中的老虎一副垂涎三尺的模样，到底是什么东西让它这样呢？宝贝这时一定注意到了右边那些美味的东西？到底是什么呢，还孩子看着图，发挥下想象力吧，cake? Chocolate cake? (那颜色确实有点像巧克力味的吧，呵呵)，Dessert? 或者和孩子想想绘本的名字，King’s pudding? 有没有猜到会是pudding呢？

首先引导孩子观察图，画面中有哪些动物？(孩子：狮子，老虎，鳄鱼，蛇)，它们各自在干什么？(老虎在津津有味的享用一堆骨头，不知是什么可怜的动物已经成为狮子的腹中之餐；老虎咆哮着“Grrrr”，一副威风凛凛的样子，河中的鳄鱼露出锋利的牙齿，仿佛随时把目标吞入口中。一边的蛇也不甘示弱，发出“嘶嘶”声，如果我们是小鹿，心里会是什么感受呢？忐忑不安？小心翼翼？分析到这里，对于这个问题，小鹿为什么远远躲在灌木丛后面？它担心什么呢？想必孩子心里很清晰了吧。应该抢着回答：它担心老虎狮子吃了它。
